Social Studies Course and Pathway to Nursing Modules

Psychology and Personality

This module addresses one of the most fascinating topics in psychology, the nature of human personality. There are many perspectives on the nature of personality, may ways to think about how people function in the world.

This module will examine many of the different levels of personality, from the surface behaviour of individuals to the deep-rooted influences. The application of personality theory to the assessment of individuals is investigated.

The module is a good introduction to psychological theory as it examines in detail a concept that we are all very familiar with, but one we rarely stop and think about.

AIMS
The main focus is to introduce students to key perspectives in psychology those of, psychodynamic, cognitive, learning theory, somatic, humanistic and existential. To illustrate the connection between the behaviour of individuals and the different perspective and how they approach the phenomena. The ethical and practical use of approaches will be examined by the use of therapy.
