The Digital Revolution is well underway. The tools to create amazing digital artwork are getting more powerful by the day. Photographers, film makers, animators and designers are using digital hardware and software as well as the more traditional methods. The opportunities for a career in these industries are immense.

The new Multimedia course integrates the recognised traditional approaches and the new digital technologies in an exciting and practical way that is designed to give those students with no formal qualifications a platform from which to progress to a career in the digital creative arts industries or further HE studies.

Using both traditional and digital media the course covers practical and theoretical skills in Visual and Graphics Design, 2D and 3D modelling, Web Media, Animation, Digital Imaging, Video and Radio Broadcasting.

During the course you will be encouraged and supported to experiment and explore your technical and creative professional approaches and potential in studies leading to a 3rd term major project of your own choosing and participation in an end of year exhibition.

Progression

Upon successful completion you will be able to progress on to Higher Education Degree studies such as Special Effects*, Film, Animation, Web or Multimedia Design or other Creative Technological degrees.
Or use the skills you have acquired in employment fields such as the entertainment industry, video game companies, advertising firms, and computer companies.
Many large employers such as local government have departments where multimedia skills are invaluable.

What you can do before the course starts:
Visit your local galleries, libraries, cinemas or theatres and look at how modern technology is changing the way they work and present their goods.

The web is the obvious resource for examining Multimedia. Some sites seem to work better than others; find examples of good and bad sites and look at what makes them ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

Reading of any related magazines i.e. Computer Arts, 3D World, Total Film, Empire and Digital Photographer. There are many online sites where industry professionals, students and interested people discuss and share advice and expertise. One such example is www.cgsociety.org.
