Bursaries

Most full-time students are eligible for a bursary from the Welsh Assembly Goverment when they are accepted onto a course at Coleg Harlech.

Brief details are given below of the types and values of grants available. However, as every student's personal circumstances are different it will not be possible to work out precisely the amount you will receive. This will be discussed in more detail at an interview, however please feel free to contact the college to discuss further.

Full details of the bursaries can be downloaded from the attached pdf

The bursary is provided to cover very basic living expenses it is paid to most students attending Coleg Harlech; it is paid in six half termly instalments.

Students are able to live on the Bursary however it will not be sufficient to repay any debts, students should therefore clear any outstanding debts before attending the college.

What the Bursary Covers

The bursary is broken down as follows:

A personal maintenance grant
Certain additional allowances where applicable (ie for dependants)
Approved travelling expenses not in excess of £80 a year
Tuition and other fees.

Previous Study

If you have previously received state funding for a programme of study at a long-term residential college, or for a programme of HE, you will not normally be eligible for a bursary. However, if you followed only one programme of study and did not stay on it for more than one academic year, the Welsh Assembly will consider an application.

Eligibility criteria for Bursary applicants

2. Be ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK for three years prior to 1st September in any academic year
3. Be ‘ordinarily resident’ in England/Wales on the first day of the academic year
4. To have been offered a place by Coleg Harlech WEA

Contributions from spouse/partner or parents or if you have
Independent status

Contributions from other sources

Even if you are not eligible for a maintenance grant all tuition and other fees will be paid irrespective of income.

The standard rate of grant for full time attendance of 38 weeks (including Christmas and Easter vacations) is currently;

students living in college accommodation or own home £3,789
students living in the parental home £2,818

Each of the above rates includes £80 towards travel expenses
The grant is paid in six half termly instalments.
