Assembly Learning Grants

This is a special grant to help people on low income to get into further and higher education. It is
intended to help cover the cost of books, equipment, travel and childcare while studying. Grants
are made by the Welsh Assembly Government throughout your Local Education Authority.

To qualify person must

  • be a full time Further or Higher Education Student or part time on a course of at least 257 hours a year. If a part time students in Higher Education, the course must amount to at least 30 credits. University or college must confirm this.

  • be over 18 and student or family must earn less than £15,000 a year, excluding tax allowances. The maximum grant is £1,500. In most cases course must also lead to a recognised qualification.

  • have lived in the UK for three years before they start studying and
    their permanent home should be in Wales, although they will still be covered if their course is
    outside of Wales.
