An Introduction to Open College Network Credits

What are credits?

Credits indicate the amount of learning which takes place on a course. One credit equals roughly 10 hours of learning.

What are the levels?

Level E – Development of basic skills and concepts and practical activities
Level 1 – Consolidation of existing skills and the introduction of new skills and areas of learning
Level 2 – Applying and extending skills and the introduction of independent learning techniques
Level 3 – Being able to develop and apply a range of critical reflective, creative and problem-solving skills and abilities.

How do I earn credits?

There are no exams.

On successful completion of a particular course or module a student is awarded credits, which can be accumulated within a passport of learning.

In order to gain credits students demonstrate evidence of their learning and achievement during the course. Some of the activities enjoyed by students on accredited courses include; projects, reviews, reports, folders, notebooks, presentations and exhibitions.

Pitman's ECDL (in partnership)
GCSE in Mathematics (Harlech site only)
University of Wales Foundation Certificate (Harlech site only)
The Open College Network Wales is an awarding body licensed by the National Open College Network to award OCN credits and NOCN Qualifications. The North Wales Open College Network is approved by the QAA (Quality Assurance Agency) to award Kitemarked Access to Higher Education Certificates.

Every year the North Wales Open College Network awards certificates of achievement to around 40,000 learners across North Wales and Powys.
