You are likely to be seriously considering a career in counselling. This may be in a voluntary, community, NHS and private sectors or self employment field. You may have already completed a level 3 course in counselling, have had some trainee experience in counselling in an agency setting, and/or undertaken significant informal counselling activities.
What are the entry level requirements?
Prior learning at level 3, i.e. NOCN Certificate or Diploma or equivalent @ level 3 in Counselling, at least 2 A levels, or BTEC National Diploma, NVQ 3, Access or GNVQ Advanced.
However, adults do not always need these prior qualifications as their life experiences may be sufficient to enable them to do the course. If this route is chosen, then students will need to attend a skills assessment event prior to the commencement of the course to see whether they can complete the assessment criteria for the course. A formal interview forms part of the application process for this course. Success at this interview is essential for entry to the course.
Sometimes, even if an applicant has previous level 3 qualifications, they may still need to do another level 3 course in Counselling first to update their knowledge/skills prior to being accepted onto this course. All applications are treated individually and any educational progress guidance is given firstly, to most benefit the applicant, and, secondly, to ensure the most supportive working environment for groups of learners on courses.
Independent References will be sought, and a clean CRB check is required from all learners.
